Zoom Vulnerability

A vulnerability has been discovered in Zoom Clients. Zoom is a cloud-based communications platform that allows users to connect via video, audio, chat, and content sharing. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to target meeting participants, execute code without user interaction, steal data, activate cameras or microphones, and install malware.
Threat Intelligence
There are currently no reports of this vulnerability being exploited in the wild. Open source articles have dubbed this vulnerability as “Zoomsday”, highlighting the critical impact of exploitation.

  • Zoom Workplace all supported platforms before version 7.1.5 and 7.0.6 in their respective branches
  • Zoom Workplace VDI Client for Windows before versions 7.0.11 and 6.6.16 in their respective branches
  • Zoom Rooms all supported platforms before version 7.1.0
  • Zoom Meeting SDK all supported platforms before version 7.1.0

Recommendations
  • Apply appropriate updates provided by Zoom or other vendors which use this software to vulnerable systems immediately after appropriate testing.
  • Apply the Principle of Least Privilege to all systems and services. Run all software as a non-privileged user (one without administrative privileges) to diminish the effects of a successful attack.
  • Use vulnerability scanning to find potentially exploitable software vulnerabilities to remediate them.
  • Architect sections of the network to isolate critical systems, functions, or resources. Use physical and logical segmentation to prevent access to potentially sensitive systems and information. Use a DMZ to contain any internet-facing services that should not be exposed from the internal network. Configure separate virtual private cloud (VPC) instances to isolate critical cloud systems.
  • Use capabilities to detect and block conditions that may lead to or be indicative of a software exploit occurring.
